Homework in 4K Below is a list of suggestions to extend learning into the home.
Fine motor practice – play-doh, watercolor painting, stickers, varied writing tools, stringing beads, etc.
Counting practice…count stairs, windows, items at the grocery store, etc.
Play games and use puzzles
Writing first name (and later last name) using a capital letter followed by title case, writing letter, number, and sight words as they are introduced.
Household chores that involve sorting and classifying (i.e. sorting and folding laundry, putting away clean silverware, sorting blocks or toys into categories)
Perform self-help tasks – allow time in your schedule to let your child practice and learn how to zip, button, snap, and put on and take off outerwear, shoes and socks
Lastly, but of the greatest importance READ for enjoyment every day to and with your child – please see separate hand out
Word Wall Homework Creating ownership of the classroom and building our classroom toolbox
Color word wall – Each week as we study a new color word, students will be asked to bring in a small object of that color to attach to the word wall. We will work together as a class to label each object.
Project of the Week A learning Show and Tell
Some weeks, students will be asked to do a “project” that will be due on Friday. Some projects will require them to reflect and draw, and some projects may involve bringing a favorite stuffed animal or book. The projects will be simple and will replace traditional show and tell. For example, the first project of the week will be an “All About Me” bag.
Family Projects
Several times a year, a family project will be sent home with specific directions. They are easy, fun, and your child will be thrilled to share them at school.
